Description
Zhug is a bright, herby, spicy and versatile condiment originally from Yemen and popular throughout the Middle East. A premium blend of freshly-harvested chopped jalapeno peppers, cilantro, parsley, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil, seasoned with salt, black pepper, cumin and cardamom. If you’re not familiar with it yet, you could think of it as a Middle Eastern chimichurri, harrisa, salsa verde or pesto. The are aromatic and herbaceous mix of the medium heat of jalapenos, bright fresh herbs and tangy lemon juice, combine for a savory, rich punch that works on almost anything. It is particularly well-suited for Middle Eastern foods such as shawarma, falafel, hummus, shakshuka, babaganoush, and grilled lamb. It is also great as a delicious sauce or use the herb paste as a rub or marinade for fish, chicken, or beef, as a sandwich spread, taco topping, as a dip by itself or mixed with yogurt or mayo. This puree of herbs and spices has been used throughout the Middle East for centuries but is most closely associated with Yemen and Israel today. Our condiments contain nothing but great ingredients, expertly blended, that we are proud to stand behind. Plant-based and healthy, it makes a perfect gift for your foodie friends, as the authentic spice of zhug is great on any dish: tacos, steak, tofu, pizza, roasted red peppers, Mediterranean dishes, shwarma, paired with tahini and pomegranate molasses, zaatar, olives, a salad dressing, to simmer with beans, on bbq meat, a marinade for meats, with baba ganoush, on toast with avocados.
