When John Harney started in the tea Trade over 30 years ago, there were just two green tea offerings from China: Gunpowder and Chun Me though our selection has expanded greatly since then, many people are very familiar with and enjoy gunpowder's sharp, charred flavor. We are thrilled to be able to offer this tea as an organic. Harney & Sons was founded on a commitment to deliver customers the finest quality tea possible. This promise, made 30 years ago, serves as the company's guiding PRINCIPLE. Today, Harney & Sons Tea remains family owned and managed, with three generations of Harney's preserving John's tradition of fine tea and traveling the world in search of the finest ingredients. It is not only the Harney mission to deliver quality tea products to their customers, but also to educate the world of tea history and taste. Whether through their dedicated customer service team, their published guides to tea drinking, or their two tea tasting shops, the Harney & Sons team works to pass on their passion of tea to a wide audience. From lugging heavy tea filled chests down their basement stairs, to stocking shelves at stores nationwide, Harney & Sons remains committed to delivering their customers a superior tea drinking experience.In 2006, Michael and Paul Harney decided membership in 1% For The Planet would provide Harney & Sons with the opportunity to drive positive environmental change in our geographical region. Our production facility is located in Upstate New York surrounded by the beautiful mountains that make up the Berkshire Range. We are minutes from the Appalachian Trail. Our facility is located between the Hudson River to our west and the Housatonic River to our east. The Housatonic offers some of this countrys finest fly-fishing. Joining 1% for The Planet meant we could directly donate one percent of our total sales to the environmental organizations of our choice. We also pay annual membership dues to 1% For The Planet to help this exemplary organization defray its overhead costs. The Harney family and staff are very proud to be part of this fine global organization working toward protection of the environment 1% at a time. As of this year Harney & Sons (with your help) will have donated nearly three and half a million dollars to 1% for the Planet.
