Matcha is green tea. The leaves are shaded for weeks before harvest, then dried and stone-ground into a fine powder, so you whisk the leaf into water instead of steeping it.
Tea has been our family's work for three generations. John Harney started the company in 1983, and we still follow his one rule: only buy and blend teas that make us smile. We have sourced Japanese green teas for more than forty years, and we buy this matcha from family growers who have been making it for generations in Kagoshima season after season. The art of making matcha is a centuries-old craft in Japan. We lean on our relationships with those Japanese families and hold it to the same standard as every tea we sell.
It is grown in Kagoshima, on the southern island of Kyushu. This is the idea John started with, an everyday luxury in a bowl: certified organic, shade grown, and priced for everyday enjoyment.
